Frequently asked questions

What is dimensional weight?

Dimensional (DIM) weight is a billing method carriers use for large, light packages. They multiply length × width × height in inches and divide by a DIM divisor. If the result is higher than the actual weight, you're billed for the dimensional weight instead.

What DIM divisor do UPS and FedEx use?

UPS and FedEx commonly use 139 for daily-rate shipments, though negotiated contracts can differ. USPS uses 166 for packages larger than one cubic foot. Check your carrier agreement for your exact divisor.

How do I lower dimensional weight charges?

Use the smallest box that safely fits your product, reduce void fill, consider mailers for soft goods, and standardize on a set of right-sized boxes that match your most common orders.
